Alice Water's Scones

A Quick Sunday Breakfast

(and my favorite way to use up left over whipping cream)

Follow Alice Water's recipe for basic Scones. We added dried cranberries and orange zest to ours, but there are many mixtures of dried fruits and citrus zest worth trying.

Ingredients:

2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 1/3 Cups Cream
2 Tbs. Butter
1 1/2 Tbs. Sugar (to sprinkle)

Preheat ove 400 degrees. Measure and mix together flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 cup sugar. Stir in the cream slowly, then mix until the dough just starts to come togehter. It will be sticky. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead bread briefly, just enough to bring the dough completely together.

Pat dough into an 8-inch circle. Then brush with the melted butter, and sprinkle with remaining sugar. Cut the circle into 8 wedges and place the wedges 1-inch apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone liner. Bake for 17 minutes or until golden brown.
