Kid Curry: A Knoxville, TN Cocktail

Like many southerns, I cannot image living in any other region. On TOAST I hope to celebrate a few of the many great places, traditions, and foods the south has to offer. Let's start with Tennessee. All the way from Memphis to the Smokeys, Tennessee has pieces of my heart.

Last New Years we made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Knoxville to visit Sam's brother and family. We always love the places he takes us (especially when they are in Denmark, but more about that trip another day). We hit what seemed to be a fairly new bar in east Knoxville, The Public House.

It was suggested we try the Kid Curry; A cocktail based on an outlaw who came thru Knoxville in the late 1800s. The cocktail was as good as the story for sure!

Until we make it back to Knoxville, we are keeping outlaw spirit alive at home with this easy recipe:

4 oz Bourbon
2 oz Lavender Simple Syrup
Juice of 1/2 a lemon (or to taste)

Haven't made your own simple syrup before? It's super easy! You basically just mix equal parts sugar and water on the stove with the flavor of your choosing until the texture of syrup, then strain.
